A Brain Chemistry-Related Condition of Depression

A Brain Chemistry-Related Condition of DepressionIn the battle of medications that have an impact on our body and brain chemistry, there is an interesting amount of grey area surrounding the issue of depression. Those who have been through the experiences of depression can attest to the fact that for a large percentage of those suffering from the condition there is no real link between the effects of antidepressants and the brain chemistry of the person taking them. But if one is to take a perspective from the patient, it is easy to see that they are just looking at the life of what they might be experiencing. But I have found out that a significant percentage of the people who are in a position to understand the issue can easily identify the reasons behind why drugs could have had such an impact on their brain chemistry. Their key concern is as follows - 'My brain chemistry has changed as a result of taking the medications.'When one has a natural biological response to stress, their response is not abnormal. When the body begins to prepare itself for survival, the normal processes occur automatically. But when the body has become overburdened with the mental effects of drugs, the stress response of the brain can become much more difficult to control. As a result, a person who has been on a program of a single medication, in particular, can suffer from a relapse back into their original state. And the last thing the person wants to do is go back to their former life. Their mind has been trained to expect a normal life. There are other common reactions to the changes in brain chemistry that can lead to depressive episodes. The symptoms of this reaction are typically:One of the most common reactions to the biological differences is loss of control over different emotions. This is referred to as being 'uptight'.I believe that when we look at the subject of depression, we need to be careful to consider the effect of brain chemistry on the individual's overall health. Having said that, the body as a whole will also respond differently to a variety of things, and therefore the symptoms of depression may differ from one person to another.

How to Conquer the 4 Top Foreign-language Speaking Fears

How to Conquer the 4 Top Foreign-language Speaking Fears How to Conquer the 4 Top Foreign-language Speaking Fears Arachnophobia: The fear of spiders.Coulrophobia: The fear of clowns.Xenoglossophobia:  The fear of foreign languages.Okay. Well be the first to admit that foreign languages arent half as horrifying as a massive spider or an angry clown (or a tiny spider and happy clown for that matter).Yet when it comes to using a foreign language, even many well-educated speakers get sweaty palms, an upset stomach and the urge to find the nearest hiding place.Even if youve studied your target language extensively, you may still be afraid to actually use it.And beyond just making you feel uncomfortable,  one study  suggests that apprehension can make you underestimate your language abilities.  Another study  takes it a step further, suggesting language anxiety can actually affect your skills in your second language.Self-doubt and diminished skills are a high price to pay for a little nervousness, but you dont need to sacrifice any of the  benefits of learning a foreign language  just yet. With the rig ht approach to foreign language anxiety, you can decrease your fear and stay on track with your language skills. You just need to be aware of what youre afraid of in order to address your fears.Heres all you need to know about the most common language fears and how to address them. Why Is It Important to Understand and Face Your Fear of Speaking a Foreign Language? The nature of foreign language anxiety can vary between cultures and learners.  You cant just assume that what scares you is what scares everyone. Everyone has different fears.  One study  suggests that the nature of language anxiety could vary between cultures and even genders. Regardless, since every learner is different, it can be assumed that there will be some variations between stressors. You must identify barriers  in order to overcome them. One study  suggests that there are several possible psychological barriers to language comprehension. Issues like aphasia (difficulty understanding speech caused by brain damage ) and dyslexia can be more challenging to address, but language anxiety is one identified barrier that you can start working on overcoming right away.Facing and reducing your fear will help you get the language practice you need to improve.  One of the biggest paradoxes of language learning is that interacting in your target language can be stressful without practice. However, that same stress keeps many learners from practicing. If you never use your target language, you wont get all the  social benefits of learning a second language. Luckily, if you can reduce your stress, it will be much easier to get the language practice you need to continue improving, and the more you improve, the less stress youre likely to feel. How to Conquer the 4 Top Foreign-language Speaking FearsFear #1: What if I dont know enough words to make it through a conversation? Many learners fear that they wont know or understand enough words to interact in their target language. After all, how do you know when your skills are strong enough? Luckily, there are some simple tricks you can use to overcome this fear and be confident in your vocabulary.Build your functional vocabulary with authentic media.Once you have practice understanding words in context, you might find your fears about your vocabulary subsiding. Thats why its so valuable to build your functional vocabulary with authentic media. Not only does this help you learn more words, it also helps you understand them in native speech. One fun way to ease yourself into understanding native speech is with FluentU. FluentU features real-world videos, like news, music videos, movie trailers and more. However, with FluentUs unique system, each video is transformed into a powerful learning tool. Videos are captioned, and the captions are annotated, giving you easy access to any words definition, example sentences and an associated image. You can even enjoy quizzes that help you practice what you learned in a fun, interactive format.Another great option is to use YouTube. You can find a huge array of authentic materials just by searching in your target language, giving you plenty of tools to use to practice understanding vocabulary in context.Prepare to make the most out of the words you do know. When speaking another language, you probably dont need as many words as you think. You just need to make the most out of the words you do know.To practice this, practice thinking in your target language. Even if you dont have all the words you want, you can often find workarounds that still allow you to communicate what you want.Recognize the value of nonverbal communication. To quote the great Ursula from The Little Mermaid, Dont underestimate the importance of body language! For language learners, that couldnt be more important. If you dont have the vocabulary to communicate what you want, you might have the body language, facial expressions, hand gestures or drawing skills.Want to practice? Find a friend and try to communicat e with each other without using any words.Dont be afraid to use translators/dictionaries.  When in doubt, a good translator or dictionary can help you fill any gaps in your vocabulary, and theres no shame in using these to help you along. For instance, with Google Translate, you can enter in text or audio for speedy translation, so youll never need to worry about not knowing a word again.Fear #2: What if I feel shy and freeze up?Shyness can hold people back from interacting in their native languages, so it should come as no surprise that the same trait can hold people back in a foreign language. Here are some ways you can overcome your shyness and put yourself out there.Build up your confidence in an online chat room or message board.Chatting online through platforms like Reddit can be less intimidating than face-to-face interactions. You can post on message boards in your target language. For instance, there are subreddits that use predominantly Chinese,  French, German,  Spanish   or another language. Not only will posting in your target language give you practice, it can also help you build up your confidence to overcome your shyness.Pretend youre playing a role.Purposely not being yourself can make you less nervous. When speaking your target language, just create a character in your mind that youre playing. That character can be confident and outgoing. You might even give them a fun name for a little extra excitement.Find groups that are designed to help you meet people. When everyone is together in order to interact, it can take away some of the intimidation factor of trying to interact.  Services like  Meetup  can help you find groups that are getting together specifically to practice language skills. Hey, if everyone else is doing it, so can you!Build yourself up.  Theres no shame in talking yourself up, especially when youre reminding yourself how awesome you are. Positive self talk can go a long way in helping you overcome your shyness. You might go over nice things people have said to you, think about the strides youve made in your target language or even listen to a motivational song in your target language to pump yourself up.Fear #3: What if I embarrass myself? Its easy to come up with ways you might embarrass yourself when using your target language, and this fear can fester. However, with some preparation, youll be ready to push that fear of embarrassment to the back of your mind.Run through common scenarios ahead of time.People who fear embarrassment often have worry about all the ways a conversation could go wrong. One way to overcome that fear is to run through common scenarios. You can consider what someone might say and also consider your response. For instance, if you want to use your language skills at a restaurant, consider what the waiter might ask and how you might answer. You might even role play. If you dont have a friend who will do it with you, you could always play both roles yourself. This extra level of prepared ness can help reduce fear of embarrassment.Consider using a chatbot or virtual reality program for practice.  There are some chatbots and virtual reality programs specifically designed to simulate real conversations, allowing you to practice without fear of embarrassment. This will give you time to build up your confidence before you use your skills in real life. For instance, Mondly VR  is a virtual reality Android app that engages you in realistic conversations. Mondly apps also feature a chatbot to give you extra language practice.Fear #4: What if I accidentally offend someone? If you havent mastered your target language, you might fear that your imperfect communication could actually offend someone. However, as long as youre prepared to react to possible snafus, you can move past your fear of offending.Remember you can use your smile to your advantage.Even if you accidentally say something offensive, a smile can help show that you mean well. Most native speakers will be able to te ll that youre a non-native speaker and will cut you some slack if you seem pleasant.Learn how to apologize and admit you made a mistake. If things go poorly, you can always apologize.  Im sorry, Im confused can go a long way, so be sure to learn this phrase in your target language.Never fear! By identifying and addressing your language learning fears, you can continue your journey towards fluency confidently. As long as no spiders or clowns pop up along the way.

Finding our niche sites

Finding our niche sites Over the last few months we have launched several new sites with focus on non-academic tuition. We hope that these sister sites will make it easier for parents and tutees to learn new skills and for tutors to showcase their additional talents using the same format as the academic site. The new niches are: Music: Helping you find a music teacher for popular instruments for either grades or fun. I.T.: Need help with something computer related? This is a good place to find help! Languages: Finding UK language teachers in your area for popular languages like French, German and Spanish through to Chinese, Polish and Arabic at all levels. Business: Fulfil training and development needs and advance the skills of your staff effectively. Arts Crafts: Find help with elocution, drama, cookery and a range of other subject areas. These sites are still growing and we would appreciate your help by letting us know how you found them, and if there is anything missing. You can jump to these sites easily using the tabs on our search box, just give them a click! Of course we would like to invite all of our existing tutors to register on these new sites (they are completely separate from the each other), and look forward to our tutees using them to find help in other subjects. Enjoy! Paul, co-Founder

An Organic Chemistry Tutor - Should You Take Chemistry at College?

An Organic Chemistry Tutor - Should You Take Chemistry at College? Are you looking for an organic chemistry tutor? There are many tutors who claim to offer their services, but the truth is, you can learn chemistry on your own. All you need is your internet connection and a little patience. Many students do not think that there is any use in taking chemistry lessons unless they study physics. For instance, if a student wants to take physics, it would be nice if he could get some college credit for it. Yet, many colleges do not give physics credit, so a student will have to find a chemistry tutor to help him with that. The instructor may be able to help him find a chemistry tutor who does offer physics credit.Since there are many physics courses, it will be up to the student to find out which of those has a chemistry component to it. Physics courses do not really cover chemistry very well, although you will still learn chemistry through the physics course.Chemistry is probably the easies t subject to learn. The quickest way to learn chemistry is to take a class at a local college or online through a school. If you do not wish to take chemistry, there are many other courses that you could take online that would cost less than the cost of a chemistry tutor. Some of these classes are applied math, engineering, engineering mechanics, math, calculus, statistics, and physics. Most universities have online degrees that you can take in order to determine if you are a possible candidate for one of these classes. The coursework for these courses includes the same curriculum as that used by your local college, but you can complete the coursework at home.Although it would be nice to have an organic chemistry tutor in the field, finding one that is reliable and affordable may be the best alternative for you. For most of us, the only place we will need a tutor is when we are trying to meet the rigorous entrance requirements for college.

Do You Know What The Difference Between Eat And It Is?

Do You Know What The Difference Between Eat And It Is?In Chemistry, do you know what the difference between ate and it is? Eat is defined as the food that we eat and it means the edible part of the food. The edible part is what is edible to us; the smell, the color, the taste and so on. It is what we see, hear, and touch. We do not need to eat more than what we need to survive, but if we have enough food, we will eat it all. We do not need to eat when we are ill or hungry, because we can make more food with the use of our metabolism and digestive system. Some say that eating is also defined as the digestible food because it was used for digestion and absorption of nutrients from the food. They argue that eating and ite are two different things that mean the same thing. But, I believe that eating can be defined as what is needed for us to survive, while it is the part of the food that the body needs to absorb nutrients from.As I said before, eat is defined as the part of the food that w e can digest. It is the part that the body is eating. But, after it has been digested, the body then has to release the waste, which is excreted through the normal excretion system, either through the urine or the feces. The only difference between eat and it is that eating is what we see, hear, and touch, while it is what we need to have as an essential part of the diet. But, if we eat too much, the body starts to produce more ite to meet the demands of the food consumed. This is why people that eating too much will feel hungry all the time, just like an animal that eats too much.I believe that eating and it can both be defined by the way the body absorbs the nutrients of the food, but eat is more important, while it is important for some foods and not for others. Because of this, some foods, which are easier to digest, will have the letter ate.In addition, eat is defined as the part of the food that is used for digestion, while it is the part of the food that the body is absorbing for energy. It is the first step towards being alive.

10 Common and Easy Guitar Chords for Beginners to Learn

10 Common and Easy Guitar Chords for Beginners to Learn Sign up successful All you need to know is how to read a guitar  chord diagram. If you then learn how to use a capo, you will be able to play almost any song in any key! Lets get started. Easy Guitar Chords for Beginners: Key of C These first four easy guitar chords will allow you to play most songs that are in the key of C. The C chord is the main chord in the key:Next, the F chord can be played in one of two  ways. This is the hardest of all 10 chords on this list because it requires the use of a barre. If you have trouble doing a full barre, you might find the first  version listed below easier to play. Here are two forms of the F chord:The G chord is typically played using the following form:Last but not least, the Am chord adds a little color to any chord progression: Once youve learned these four chords you can play most songs that are in the key of C, and with the use of a capo you can play many other songs. That wasnt too hard, was it? Only four  chords and you are already well on your way to playing most popular songs. Here is a simple chord pattern in C that uses all four  chords so you can get some practice in. SEE ALSO: A Roadmap of the Notes on a Guitar Easy Guitar Chords for Beginners: Key of G You have already learned the G and C chord so now you only need to learn two more chords to be able to play songs in the key of G. As a bonus, you already know one other chord in the key of G the Am chord. So learn these two chords and you will be able to play five  chords in the key of G! Here is how to play the D chord in the key of G:Next, the Em chord is one of the most easy guitar chords to play because it only uses two fingers. Here is a chord pattern in the key of G that uses all five  chords. Make this a part of your practice sessions to get comfortable with the feel of these common chords. Easy Guitar Chords for Beginners: Key of D Once more we only need to learn two  more chords to play in the key of D. The first one is the A chord:  Next up is the Bm7 chord. The Bm7 is easier to play then the Bm chord and it can be used just about anywhere you see a Bm chord. Here is a chord pattern you can practice in the key of D that uses all five  chords. SEE ALSO: The Big List of Easy Guitar Songs Easy Guitar Chords for Beginners: Key of A And finally, adding two more chords will allow you to play in the key of A. The first one is the E chord:The F#m7 chord is easier to play than the F#m chord and it can be used almost anywhere you find the F#m chord in a song. Here is a chord pattern to get practice playing all across the fretboard in the key of A. Tips Tricks for Playing These Chords Play along with the video tutorial below, which combines a few of the chords you just learned! Remember that any time you see a chord with a 7 or 9 after it, you can simply play the easier version. For instance, a G7 chord can be played as a G chord without any problems. So until you learn the extended version, just use the simple version. Most minor chords can be played either with or without the 7. The extended version has a little more color but will usually work fine in the place of the regular chord. For example, if you see an Bm chord, you can usually play a Bm7 chord. A suspended chord, written as a sus or sus4, can usually be replaced by the regular chord without the suspension, but only if everyone playing makes that change. Sometimes, the suspension is necessary to fit with the melody line, so the substitution is not always effective. If you remember these simple rules you will find that all you need to play most music are these 10 guitar chords for beginners and a capo. Take it to the Next Level For an extra challenge, learn the suspended chords for G, D, A, and E, and you will find that you can play almost every chord in songs from the key of C, G, D, and A. Almost all of these guitar chords for beginners are simple chords that any new guitarist can learn! What do you want to learn on the guitar next? Share your goals in the comments below. 5 World-Famous Hispanic Musicians With Inspiring Stories

5 World-Famous Hispanic Musicians With Inspiring Stories 5 Inspiring Hispanic Musicians Natalie Hagen Many of the world’s most well known and talented musicians come from a Hispanic background. The music of these singers, guitarists, and pianists has won globally recognized awards and transcended cultural borders. Several Hispanic musicians, such as Santana and Gloria Estefan, have overcome the odds to chase their dreams and here, we’ll share their inspirational stories. Keep reading to learn about five artists that are sure to leave you motivated, encouraged, and moved. 5 Inspiring Hispanic Musicians Gloria Estefan Pop Singer Source: Jesus Cordero Gloria Estefan was born in Havana, but her family fled from Cuba to Miami when she was a young girl. After serving in Vietnam, Gloria’s father became very ill. With her mother working and attending night classes, Gloria was left at home to care for her father and sister. These responsibilities were a lot for a teenager, but Gloria turned to music as an escape. She would lock herself in her room and sing for hours. In 1975, Gloria became acquainted with a keyboardist who later became her husband. He led a band called “the Miami Latin Boys” and asked Gloria to be the lead vocalist as soon as he heard her sing. The band’s name was later changed to “the Miami Sound Machine.” Their albums launched to the top of the charts, and Gloria was called a demure, Hispanic version of Madonna. Her story doesn’t stop there, though. A car accident while on tour in 1990 left Gloria with broken vertebrae in her back. Never one to stay down, she made a miraculous recovery and was back on tour and making albums within the year. To this day Gloria Estefan is still making music, with many projects paying tribute to her native home of Cuba. Santana Guitarist Source: Libby Fabro Santana has become a very familiar name, working with artists from every genre such as Michelle Branch and DJ Khalid, but it hasn’t always been that way. Growing up in Mexico, Santana’s father originally taught him how to play the violin, but he found that he liked the electric guitar much more. As a teenager living in Tijuana, Santana started out performing at a variety of small venues.  He later moved to San Francisco and spent his days working as a dishwasher in a diner and playing for change on the streets.  B.B. King and Ray Charles were two of his biggest musical inspirations. Santana never gave up on his dreams though, and eventually decided to pursue music full time. What started out as “The Santana Blues Band” later became known as “Santana” and gained a mass following, even performing at Woodstock. The crowds loved Santanas sound a mix of blues, rock, and jazz. The band released multiple albums that went platinum and Santana has continued to win Grammy awards. He also recently published a memoir called The Universal Tone: Bringing My Story to Light with the hope of inspiring others, and it became a national bestseller. Ruben Gonzalez Pianist Source: Ebet Roberts Ruben Gonzalez is proof that it’s never too late to pursue your passion. He released his debut album at the age of 78! Ruben originally studied medicine, but later in life he decided to pursue music. He was known for his Latin jazz sound and was requested by many bands and ensembles. Ruben was best known for working with the Afro Cuban All Stars and the Buena Vista Social Club, specializing in Latin dance and traditional Cuban music. His album with the Buena Vista Social Club won a Grammy in 1997, and that same year Ruben decided to release his first solo album “IntroducingRuben Gonzalez.” After releasing a second album in 2000, he died three years later knowing that he had done what he loved with his life. His music is still enjoyed by many. Placido Domingo Opera Singer Source: Barbara Davidson Both of Placido’s parents were singers for Spanish operettas in Madrid, which definitely contributed to his remarkable tenor voice and musical abilities. This didn’t mean that his success came easily, though. After moving to Mexico at eight years old, Placido began appearing alongside his parents in performances. He originally played the piano and enrolled in school to become a conductor, but later decided to focus on singing. Placido had a few small television appearances and often played in piano bars to earn money. At 18 years old, he began landing roles in various opera productions. Placido continued to work hard and eventually won a Grammy award for Best Opera Recording in 1971. Fourteen Grammys later, he is now in his seventies and lives by the motto, “If I rest I rust.” Placido didn’t even let health problems such as cancer slow him down. He is still performing, recording, and running a prestigious voice competition called “Operalia” to discover and nurture new talent. SEE ALSO: 20 Spanish Traditions, Customs, and Superstitions Selena Tejano Singer Source: Dave Einsel We can’t discuss Hispanic musicians without mentioning Selena. Known as the “Queen of Tejano,” Selena’s legacy lives on today despite her early death. (Tejano is a type of music that incorporates Mexican and other styles of music such as country.) Selena began singing as a child. She was the lead in her family’s band alongside her brother and sister. The band originally performed at her parents’ restaurant, weddings, and fairs. As their music became increasingly popular, the band started to record albums and go on tour. Eventually Selena was signed as a solo artist, and her Spanish-language albums received major accolades and awards. She began to work on her first English album, but before she could see its release, she was killed by one of her own fans at just 23 years old. Selena’s untimely death was shocking to all who enjoyed her music. Her English album, “Dreaming of You,” was later released in 1996. The album sold more than a million copies and introduced many people to Tejano music. Selena’s story lives on, and she continues to inspire many with her impressive accomplishments in such a short career. Each of these Hispanic musicians are inspiring in their own unique way. From different regions and different walks of life, they all overcame obstacles to introduce the world to their musical styles and abilities. Tell us about a musician you love in the comments below!
